Residents round Amersham Road told us that they were concerned about the untidiness of the area, particularly caused by fly-tipping as I mentioned in an earlier blog. Another problem was that several pairs of shoes and trainers had been thrown over the telephone cable in Ian Mikardo way. This had become an eye-sore for locals and presented the possible danger of the cable snapping.
I contacted the council about the fly tipping and informed BT Openreach of the potential danger of the cable – I was impressed by the response.
The area is much tidier as you can see in the picture and the shoes are gone along with the cable, so that particular problem can’t return.
I think that that the appearance of the environment in which we live is very important to our quality of life.
Whichever part of Reading they live, everyone deserves to have tidy, well-maintained surroundings and if elected I intend to work hard to keep on top of issues like this so Caversham doesn’t suffer from lack of attention as it seems to have done with the current Conservative councillors.
